BIOGRAPHY

Matthew Wright is a self-taught fine artist from Perth, Western Australia, working mainly with acrylic paint and graphite. His works focus largely on figurative representation, but with an eye towards incidental abstraction and mark-making. His latest works explore fragmentation; figures re-assembled from multiple source images, then filtered through the painting process.

STATEMENT

These works are an investigation into habitat and personal space within a suburban context. The banal is intentionally fragmented to reveal something else; perhaps a sense of ‘something more’. Happy accidents and unplanned visual collisions imply a narrative beyond the purely representational.
